Slack Users Can Now Video Chat Directly With Microsoft Teams Users

A slack conversation starting a Microsoft Teams callSlack

Slack and Microsoft Teams are direct competitors, but that doesn’t mean they can’t work together. Today, Slack announced that you can now initiate calls to Teams users from directly within the Slack app. You can also see existing Teams calls, and how long the call has been going before joining.

Slack and Teams are two of the most popular team communication apps available right now, and usually, you could view them as incompatible competitors. If you work with more than one company (perhaps as a go-between or through joint ventures), that can lead to issues when each company went a different direction for communication apps.

But Slack is making things a little easier when you need to communicate across apps. Once you’ve installed the Teams app, you can use the /teams-call slash command to start a call or join an existing call. That should make working together across companies a little easier.

It’s not just Teams getting the special treatment though; Slack also added integrations for Zoom, Jabber, RingCentral, and DialPad.

The integrations are available starting today; you’ll just need an admin to enable them.
